Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay is one of those places that doesn't look real β€” blindingly white sand, crystal clear water, and marine life everywhere you look. It's about a 2.5-hour drive south of Sydney, so you'll need to rent a car. Public transport won't cut it. If you're up for it, you can camp at Green Patch inside Booderee National Park for the full experience.

Tips

  • You need a car. No practical public transport options.
  • Booderee National Park pass required. Purchase a standard 2-day pass (or more) before entering.
  • Bring snorkeling gear if you have it β€” the water clarity is unreal.
  • Pack food and water. Options inside the park are limited.

On the Way Down

  • Kiama Blow Hole β€” Worth a quick stop on the drive. A natural rock formation that shoots water into the air when the swell is right.

Huskisson

The main coastal town and heart of Jervis Bay. Good base for food and supplies.

  • Dhaba (Indian Restaurant) β€” Try the egg curry.
  • Nana Thai Restaurant β€” Solid Thai.
  • Papparich β€” Malaysian.
  • Gelato shop β€” Grab a scoop while walking the waterfront.
  • Ernest Arthur β€” CafΓ©/bar on the waterfront.

Beaches & Snorkeling

  • β˜… Blenheim Beach β€” Fantastic snorkeling in calm, clear water. More secluded than the main beaches. Vibrant marine life along the rocky edges.
  • Greenfield Beach β€” Soft white sand and clear blue water. Decent snorkeling along the rocks, but better as a relaxed beach day or picnic spot.
  • β˜… Murrays Beach (Booderee National Park) β€” Top-tier snorkeling. Crystal clear water with impressive marine diversity. Also a beautiful spot to just chill.
  • Cave Beach (Booderee National Park) β€” Watch for wallabies on the beach. Rugged charm, popular with surfers and campers.
  • Abrahams Bosom Reserve β€” Quieter, family-friendly beach area.

Walks & Activities

  • Woebegone Snorkeling β€” Guided snorkeling experiences if you want someone to show you the best spots.
  • The Grotto Walk (Nowra) β€” A short bushwalk to a beautiful sandstone grotto. Worth the detour.
  • Gosangs Tunnel β€” A short walk through a historic hand-carved tunnel in the bush.

Camping

  • Green Patch (Booderee National Park) β€” The go-to campsite. Book ahead in peak season. Wake up to kangaroos and cockatoos.
